Customs of the days
- Hillula of Rabbi Shimon
- The thirty-third day of the Omer, kept as the day of Rabbi Shimon bar Yohai — learning from the Zohar, singing and a se'uda in his honor.
- Bonfires
- Lit at night for the light of the hidden Torah that Rabbi Shimon revealed. Families gather with the children.
- Sefirat HaOmer
- The forty-nine days counted between Pesah and Shavuot, said standing each night after Arbit.
- The mourning lifts
- Sephardic practice keeps the customs of the Omer until the morning of the 34th day, so weddings and haircuts resume then rather than on Lag BaOmer itself.
- Halake
- The first haircut of a three-year-old boy, which many Sephardic families hold on this day.
- Tahanun omitted
- A day of joy in the middle of the Omer — no Tahanun and no eulogies.
