Customs of the days
- Ketubah of the Torah
- Sephardic congregations read the Ketubah le-Shavuot before the Torah reading — the marriage contract between Israel and the Torah.
- Azharot
- The poem of the 613 mitzvot by Rabbi Shlomo ibn Gabirol, chanted over the two days in the Sephardic and North African tradition.
- Tikkun Leil Shavuot
- Learning through the first night until dawn, then Shaharit at sunrise — kept in shul with coffee and cake for anyone who comes.
- Megillat Rut
- The book of Ruth, read on Shavuot for its harvest setting and its account of loyalty.
- Dairy at the table
- Cheese pastries and milk dishes at one meal of the day, with meat at the other for the yom tov se'uda.
- Counting the Omer
- The forty-nine days from Pesah lead here; Shavuot is the fiftieth, the day the Torah was given at Sinai.
