Customs of the days

Seder of the fruits
The Sephardic and North African custom of a full seder — thirty kinds of fruit where possible, each with its berakha and a passage learned before it.
The seven species
Wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives and dates — the fruits of the land, eaten first and in order.
A new fruit
A fruit not yet tasted this season, so the berakha of Shehecheyanu can be said over it.
No fasting, no eulogies
Tu BiShvat is the new year for trees. Tahanun is omitted and the day is kept with quiet joy.
Carob and etrog jam
Bokser and preserved etrog from Sukkot appear on many Sephardic tables for the occasion.
Learning for the trees
Passages from Tanakh, Mishna and Zohar about each fruit are read between the berakhot at the seder.
