Customs of the days
- Lulav & etrog
- The four species are taken every morning of Sukkot except Shabbat, with the Hallel and the Hoshanot circuits around the Sefer Torah.
- Sitting in the sukkah
- Meals are eaten in the sukkah for all seven days. Florida weather is on our side — bring the whole family.
- Hoshana Rabba
- The seventh day, when many stay up learning through the night, the seven circuits are made, and the aravot are beaten at the end of Shaharit.
- Shemini Atzeret
- The eighth day, with the prayer for rain — Tefillat Geshem — chanted in the Sephardic melody.
- Simhat Torah
- The Torah cycle is completed and begun again, with hakafot, singing and dancing, and an aliyah for every man present.
- Ushpizin
- The nightly welcoming of the seven shepherds into the sukkah, said in the Sephardic order before the meal.
Everyone is welcome
Congregation Bircat Shalom is a family-friendly Sephardic Orthodox synagogue in West Boca Raton, serving Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, Coral Springs, Parkland and Deerfield Beach. There are no tickets and no membership requirement to daven with us on Sukkot — just come. Email the shul with any question, or read about keeping kosher locally.
